Why subscribe?
Kituwah Press, by Giduwa Cherokee News™, exists because the community never stopped needing it.
When the United Keetoowah Band shuttered its media department in 2025, we continued publishing independently through Candy Mink Springs Media LLC. The name Kituwah comes from the ancient mother town from which all Cherokee people trace their origins. Giduwa carries that same root — the mother town, the point of origin all Cherokee people trace back to. We operate in that spirit — that the people of this reservation, Native and non-Native, are bound to the same land and the same stakes.
This reservation runs on a symbiotic relationship. Native and non-Native households share the same roads, the same schools, the same hospitals, the same water. A tribal budget shortfall lands on the same county as a factory layoff. What affects one community here affects the other. We report on both because they are not separate stories.
Kituwah Press carries the news: tribal governance, federal Indian policy, community news, arts and culture, and the lives of the people who make this place what it is. AP standards, sourced and verified.
Kituwah Punk is the same reporting, sharper voice. Commentary, op-ed, and opinion — punching up at power, never down. Same sourcing standard as the news side. The anger is aimed, the facts still hold.
We write for the person in the grocery store checkout line and the policy lawyer in Washington who needs to understand what those policies actually do to real people. We do not choose between them.
